Only in Bucks: Bucks County Soapstone

If orange is the new black, then soapstone is the new granite!

Soapstone has become a very popular material for counter tops, showers, sinks and floors.

And a store in Perkasie, PA is filling the need for customers in Bucks and Montgomery Counties by taking orders in its new showroom, and turning those custom orders around in just three weeks.

I had the opportunity to join a local couple who are in the midst of a kitchen renovation at Bucks County Soapstone Company this weekend. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and we got to spend some time with owner Scott Seuren, who gave us insider tips and suggestions as well as a quick education about soapstone and all its properties.

The shop, located at 515 W. Walnut Street in Perkasie, was absolutely adorable, inviting, and merchandised beautifully. All of the soapstone products we got to see were made on site in their nearby soapstone facility!

Look... no stains!
Soapstone is non-porous so it won't absorb liquids. Spilling a glass of your favorite red wine on a soapstone counter top wouldn't result in staining, and acidic liquids can be wiped right off as well.

With soapstone you also don't have to worry about taking a pot from the stove and putting it right on the counter, The stone won't get damaged from the heat and doesn't stain. Did I mention that soapstone is also very scratch resistant?

Natural soapstone ranges from milky white to marbled gray. The spots or marbling in soapstone are actually quite desirable. Soapstone can be made a darker when oiled repeatedly with a natural mineral oil. In fact, mineral oil is the only upkeep required!

If you are considering bringing soapstone ANYTHING into your home,
Scott personally invites you to visit his showroom and shop so you can see and touch the product.

If you're curious about soapstone and how to incorporate it into your kitchen or baths, go ahead and check out Bucks County Soapstone. We visited on a Saturday- just make sure to schedule an appointment!

"I took the tour and LOVED it."
