Only in Bucks County: A Winter Walk at Princeton University

I had a business lunch in Princeton last week and decided to stroll the University campus afterwards. With the trees bare, the architecture of the buildings really stood out, and I felt more like I was in Europe than New Jersey. Each building is designed very differently but they all fall under the style of Collegiate Gothic. There are many impressive English Tudor and Gothic-style buildings throughout the campus. Princeton University is close to Bucks County and is the perfect place to grab lunch and go for an architectural stroll!

Blair Hall (Dorms)

Alexander Hall

Henry Hall, student housing.

Blair Arch

Nassau Hall, Princeton's oldest building.

I purposely didn't post the names of all of the buildings I passed so that you can walk around taking your own tour of Princeton's magnificent campus! Or, take a building by building virtual tour here.

A gorgeous view as I exited the campus, even on a winter's day.
And, it turned out I parked in front of a cupcake bakery!

Only in Bucks County: Hershberger Heritage Farm Stay

Got SHIPLAP?

I know where you can find some...

Nathan and Shelah Layton of Sellersville's Hershberger Heritage Farm recently renovated an old pool house on their farm and created a rustic little guest house that you can now rent overnight!

Decorated in the style of Chip & Joanna Gaines, with lots of shiplap and vintage, pre-loved, and handmade items, the studio has an open floor plan and is set in the middle of a 50 acre working farm.
To bring attention to this new guesthouse that they rent through Airbnb.com, Shelah and Nate are having a contest now through January 31, 2018 for you and a guest to win a two night stay over Valentine's Day Weekend!

Hershberger Heritage Farm is Bucks County's ONLY certified organic livestock farm. They offer grass fed organic meat, organic eggs, and organic pasture raised poultry. If eggs are in season during your stay, you can even step outside & grab a few for your breakfast!

Only in Bucks County: Freezin For a Reason

This Saturday (January 20th, 2018) the Eastern Polar Bear Plunge will be celebrating 10 Years of “Freezin for a Reason” at Neshaminy State Park in Lower Bucks County, and it will be the third year Richard and I will join in on the fun!

(As observers... do we look THAT crazy?)

The Eastern Polar Plunge benefits The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania and has raised close to $1,000,000 for Special Olympics athletes over the past 10 years. The Plunge is a staple in Bucks County that brings more than 500 costume-clad, energized plungers together to be “freezin’ for a reason,” organizers say. Although most participants have already registered and have done some fund-raising, you can still register the day of the event to take the plunge.

Even as spectators, this is a great way to cross something unique and fun off your bucket list as you watch hundreds of people; many in costume; make a mad dash into freezing cold water!

IF YOU GO:
The address for park is 3401 State Road, Bensalem PA 19020.
Dress warm! It's about a half mile walk from the parking area down to the river.
Here is the day's schedule:

Registration Opens:

Costume Contest Judging:

The photo below got me into quite a bit of HOT water last year!
Through the power of social media, it turns out the (topless) woman is a friend of a friend.
She contacted me and thought the photo was absolutely priceless!  #itsjustaboob
